What are specialist dental treatments and why are they important?

This Practice is a specialist dentist Devon that excels in specialist treatments and is a centre of excellence for referrals to undertake treatments such as endodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics and restorative dentistry. In addition this Practice also undertakes general treatments and preventive dentistry.

Specialist treatments at our Practice in Devon are a branch of dentistry that deals with more specific problems in comparison to general dentistry and restorative dentistry.

What is endodontics?

At our specialist dentist Devon we often get referrals for endodontics which is also known as root canal treatment. Why do people need root canal treatment? This is usually required when the inside of the tooth, also known as the pulp, gets infected over time through tooth decay. This infection often spreads along the root canal system which then leads to an abscess forming which can cause a lot of pain and discomfort. If you experience this pain do not delay in visiting our dentist, because if the root canal treatment is not carried out in a timely manner it could result in you needing to have the tooth taken out.

You should know that at our specialist dentist Devon we try to avoid extracting the tooth unless this is a last resort. Our expert professional will carry out the treatment and ensure your comfort and ease throughout the process. The first step of the procedure is for local anaesthetic to be administered to the infected area in order to ensure that you do not feel any pain whilst the procedure is being carried out. The dentist will then use a drill to prepare the tooth for the treatment. The pulp and the infection will be taken out of the root canal and then once that is done the tooth gets filled and sealed temporarily with a crown. The treatment cannot be completed in one appointment. Once the tooth has healed you will have another appointment where the tooth will be checked and then permanently filled.

What are the benefits of having root canal treatment?

There are a number of benefits of having root canal treatment. Firstly it ensures that there is no further infection causing more pain and discomfort. Treating the root canal ensures that the rest of the teeth are unaffected, otherwise if you do not get this treated the infection will spread to the rest of the teeth. In addition once the treatment is completed the tooth is restored back to the way it originally was and you will not experience pain and discomfort any longer.

How much does root canal treatment cost?

At our Practice in Devon we can provide root canal treatment both under the NHS and privately. We often get referrals to perform the treatment under the NHS, however, there are often longer waiting times. We offer all our services privately to clients and should you require private treatment please contact our Practice where a payment plan can be discussed with you should you require the option of paying in instalments for your treatments.
